My summer was quite busy. I started to tour in April with Kate McGarry, than Omer Avital's quintet, than I had a tour with my Band in Europe with Bob Sheppard, Omer Avital and Russell Ferrante, than continued with the Lionel Loueke Trio. We still have a few dates in the west coast with him, and after that we are going to the studio to record Lionel's debut CD on the Blue Note label!

March 8, 2006

Happy new year to everyone! As you can see, I am updating my website again, and here are some of the greatest news that I have so far! Finally, I recorded my CD with a great band, who you can see at the picture above. From L-R, Michael Brorby, Your's truly, Aaron Parks, Chris Cheek, Mark Turner, John Patitucci and Lionel Loueke! I recorded my CD at the end of November and right now I am at the mixing process. Hopefully soon will be out. It feauters 8 original compositions of mine and 1 arrangement of Wayne Shorter's ESP. Since the last update of my website, many things happened. I continued to play with Chris Cheek's band, and slowly we started to have more and more gigs with GILFEMA. I had a tour in Italy in december with Lorenzo Conte and Michele Calgaro, than in february I had a tour in Luxembourg with the Greg Lamy Quartet. Now, I am planning to record a duo CD with the great saxophone player Javier Vercher and I've been playing a couple of gigs with my own band in New York and at the end of april, we are going to Europe for a short tour. Also, the Francisco Pais CD is now available at the stores and on the Feshsound-Newtalent label's website. Well, I promise that this year I will update my website more often and let you know when I am playing near You! Keep it Cosmic, Love and Peace.....

Welcome to my updated news section! The last few months went by so fast, I did not even realise how long was the last time since I updated my news. In the middle of February, I did some concerts and Masterclasses with Victor Prieto in Earie/PA, which was a lot of fun, except the fact that it was soooo cold! Victor is an amazing accordion player, and hopefully we will play together more often. After that I played some gigs with Chris Cheek's band, with Chris Higgins on bass and Steve Cardenas on Guitar. We played tunes mostly from "Vine", (Chris's CD on FreshSound) and it was a really pleasure for me to play with those guys! We had some gigs here in NY with Lionel Loueke's Trio, (Massimo Biolcati on bass) and In the end of March we finally started our tour with GilFeMa. It was only two weeks, mostly in Hungary and Austria, but we had an amazing time there! It was great to hear Massimo and Lionel, bringing always new ideas to the band stage, day after day!

In Italy I played with Ciccio, Daniele, Luca LoBianco, Mauro Schiavoni, David Boato, Lorenzo Conte, Marcello Alluli, Glauco Venier..etc. Great musicians and very nice people too. Right now I am in California/San Francisco, and just finished recording with Emmanuel Vaughan Lee, Albert Saenz, Erik Jekabson and Mark Turner! Wow, what a great week I had! I also started to work in New York with a great singer called Tama Waipara! In the band my fellow musicians are included the great Daniele Camarda-bass and Fernando Isealla-piano(who I've been playing with since the last 5years now). We did some recordings right before I left and hopefully it will be out soon! I also made a recording with Daniele and Ciccio for our next CD! It seems like it was time to update my web-site! In the summer I was traveling quite a bit, so I could not really add anything to my news! Finally I am back in L.A. and it seems like I will stay here for a another couple of weeks. If you followed my Itinerary you probably know where I was. My first tour was in Portugal with the Francisco Cardoso Quintet. I had an amazing experience with this guys (Francisco Cardoso . guitar, Nathan Blehar . tenor, Albert Sanz . piano, Luques Curtis . bass). Check this guys out if you are around Boston or New York. Than I went to Hungary to visit my family and I was playing with some guys from Hungary as well. One of them is a piano player who just going to start Berklee in the Fall and he is amazing! His name is Arpad Olah (Cumo). My European tour ended with the Umbria Jazz Festival, where I played with the Monk Band. Amazing Festival, amazing people, amazing food........ We played there every night for two weeks. Charlie Haden, Pat Metheny, Reid Anderson and many other musicians came to our gigs and gave us some feedback. It was great to play with the Monk band after two months of break. Unfortunately Lionel could not come to Italy because of some Visa problem. Around that time also our CD came out with the Francesco Guaiana trio. In the end of July I played a great concert with the Jimmy Heath Quartet. It was Jimmy Heath on Tenor, Billy Childs on Piano and John Clayton on Bass. (Soon I will have pictures and some listening files as well). The summer tour finished with a festival in Santa Fe (New Mexico), where I played with the Monk band featuring Terence Blanchard and Dave Grusin. This week we have here at the Institute Hal Crook. He is and he always been a great teacher and a very good friend of mine. I will write more about our experience with at the end of this week!
